Coffee and Conversation – April 3, 2018

From the Ground Up: Safe Systems from a City Planning Perspective

Noreen McDonald
Department Chair, City and Regional Planning, UNC-CH, Associate Director, CSCRS

A guiding principle of the safe systems approach is that multiple sectors – not simply the behavior of drivers – determine road safety. In this session, we focused on city planning and worked through how planning impacts road safety outcomes. The emphasis was on understanding how upstream processes, which may never be referenced in a crash report, heavily impact the safety of our transport system.

When: April 3, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Where: UNC Chapel Hill, Chapin Reading Room, 211 New East
