Summary
This project was unable to proceed because of unforeseen external circumstances, and no funds were expended on the effort. However, in preparation for the project, the following poster graphic was created exploring bike crash patterns across Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Portland after an increase in cyclist volume following the launch of bikeshares in each city. The inconsistency suggests that numbers alone may not lead to biking safety. Cities aiming to become more bike-friendly need to consider infrastructure improvements and traffic management strategies while promoting cycling. (Authors: Xiaoxia Dong and Eric Dumbaugh)
