UPDATE: Safe Systems Summit postponed
It is with great disappointment that CSCRS is announcing that the Safe Systems Summit is officially postponed. The forecast for Hurricane Florence and its potential impact on travel to/from North Carolina, as well as potential flooding and damage within the state, make this the right decision. The safety and well-being of Summit speakers, attendees and event staff is paramount!
The Safe Systems Summit program and our 300+ person participant list is chock full of great speakers and contributors. After we get through this immediate round of urgent notifications, we will explore how we can creatively make use of the efforts conducted to date to possibly offer content virtually and maintain momentum as we begin planning for a later conference (tentatively Winter 2018/Spring 2019). We will post any updates on these efforts on roadsafety.unc.edu and share it with attendees via email, social media and other communications channels. Some more information:
- Your registration: We hope that you will be able to attend the rescheduled Summit! We will keep your registration on file for the new dates. If you have any questions about your registration, please email info@roadsafety.unc.edu.
- Airfare: There is no official industry-wide guidance yet, but Southwest already issued a travel advisory with special accommodations due to the hurricane. Please wait until the airline cancels your flights or you get some notification from the airline, as you are more likely to recoup some or all of the associated ticket costs if you approach a reservation in that manner. (Update: American Airlines is letting travelers in the hurricane’s path rebook flights for free.)
- Hotel: Please cancel your own reservations if you made them.
- For students: Stay tuned for more information about the Research Poster Showcase. We may hold a digital competition soon (but not this week). We will be in touch with impacted students directly.
- Other questions: Please email info@roadsafety.unc.edu with other questions, issues, problems associated with postponing the Summit. If we are significantly impacted by the weather in Chapel Hill (where CSCRS is based), it may take us a bit longer to respond; thank you for your patience as we respond as quickly as possible.
If you are anywhere on the East Coast, please stay safe this week!
